Government and some private clinics aren't taking enough responsibility.
I first had my breast implants implanted 15yrs ago when I was 20. A second operation was performed in 2001 which used PIP implants - I was told this by my surgeon just before Christmas. On Monday (9th Jan '12) the ultrasound scan revealed they're both leaking. I was also informed I will need some lymph nodes removing as they're enlarged. All I want is to have the implants removed, however, I'm worried there will be a lot of excess skin left which may cause me to have body issues yet again - I had them done in the first place because of this. I feel very alone and scared. I feel the government and some private clinics aren't taking enough responsibility. There needs to be tighter regulations for the approval of these medical devices and follow up screenings so that the manufacturers don't change to cheaper ingredients after they've been approved. I feel the MHRA who initially approved the PIP implants have 'passed the buck' and the Department of Health also aren't willing to take some financial responsibility. Why should I pay £3500 to have them removed or, if I so wish, to have them removed/replaced at the private clinic who conducted the original operation? I went to a reputable surgeon based in Harley Street and am expected to pay for this... Doesn't the government receive taxes from the private clinics? Don't the private clinics/ government have insurance policies for such mishaps? None of this makes sense. My heart and thoughts go out to everyone who is also in a similar situation.

Hi Liz,
Am so sorry to hear your story and I do hope we can all find a solution soon. There is a surgeon in Harley Street offering removal for £2500 if you'd like the details?
I had my PIPs implants fitted in Nov '04 with Harley Medical Group and touch wood have no real problems. The ultrasound didn't show anything and I need to find out from HMG about my MRI scan, they've yet to call me so am going on Friday to find out about this.
I've decided that I'll put in a claim for the original fee, removal and compensation as this is not what we asked to be put in our bodies. I've decided that surgery will be for removal only as athe crisis as made me realise that it is simply not worth your health for boobs. I have a big difference in sizes and will have to wear inserts whilst I adapt to life without them.
I think every woman with implants needs to weigh up whether they want to face the rest of their lives worrying about the health risks, cost of replacing, scans and everything that comes with it. Clinics do not do this and I'll be doing my best to stop other women from having it done!
Let me know how you get on, I had an Asthma attack last week and made myself very ill over this so I can't have surgery until am well again.
Good luck x
I complete understand how you are feeling. I had implants 7 years ago and have had pain, numbness in my right breast the whole 7 years but I was told this was my neres. i have since discovered I have PIP implants and have had a scan as i was concerned about the right breast. i have recently had the same pain starting in the left one but never dreamt there would be a problem. There was it was the left one what was leaking so I have no idea what is up with the other. I am awaiting removal asap and although I am very concerned about what will be left my health is more important and I can not see myself ever having impants again as I would always worry.
By getting implants, you're helping your surgeon get that boat and 40,000 square foot house they always wanted.
Reading all the above comments I realize Im not alone to have the same discomforts: such as numbness all the under area, high painful sensitivity my nipples (for all these 15years!!) loosing the sexual pleasure that was turning me up in that area, . I had the first encapsulation with a ring of scar tissue under the left one ( under the muscles), removed 9 years ago. That was the moment to talke out the damn implant! Unfortunately I was scared to be a flat breast one with all the complexes I had since teen, not supported my intelligent people. With the same cost I could have done lot of right exercises , postural sessions and yoga, to obtain a nice bust without this surgery . Now Im going to remove all, hopefully there is no leak , which would be a push of luck given that are 15 years an the life-span for prothesis is max 10 years!!. Bit concern about my shape after , not so beautiful. I prefer not to have lifting: hate big scars!!
But whatever I have o accept he consequences of this stupid choice to please the look and the idea to be more attractive , especially to men. If a man doesnt like you as you are, with all the story of your bosy, isnt a good man, that for sure. So, is not worth this surgery at all!!
Plastic surgeons, in general, make big money out of psychological problems of people, that have to be adressed first to a good therapist.
Hi,
I'm a 62 yo who has finally come to my senses!
After having my Nagor implant without any problems 9 except for loss of sensation on the under breast and nipple, which never came back)i have got some capsulation on the inside of the right breast. This has now spurred me on to remove them completly. I only hope thay my C cup won't look too bad after its removed, especially as I'm no spring chicken!
If anyone has had implant removed at my 'tender' age without any replacement, do let me know if they fill up over time (wishful thinking?).
Many thanks
I had saline implants done in 2004. I was a B cup and wanted to have bigger breasts. I had surgery and turned out to be a 34D. I did not experience any problems throughout the years and even though I knew that eventually I would have to have them replaced, I though it would be at least 20 years. Well, now after 7 years one of the implants has leaked and now I have a smaller breast. I consulted with my surgeon and he told me that the manufacturer would replace and also pay a portion of the surgery. Well I though, "great this is good news", however after I spoke to the nurse it turns out that even with the company providing replacement and providing some money for surgery, I would still have to pay $6,600. I have considered my decision and read many stories on line and the possibility that my new implants might leak or that I may have to go through surgery again in 10 years and who know how much it will cost in 10 or 15 years, "$10,000???". I have decided to remove them all together. I am worried about sagging and may being unhappy with the natural breast but I think this would be the best decision for me. I am 46 and have never had children and hope that the skin will shrink a bit and my skin would not be so saggy. I guess I will have to buy the padded bras. I don't know how much it will cost just remove the implants but I am sure that it will not be so cheap either. I will keep you posted......
